Indian fare & summertime

Miss me yesterday? I should probably let y'all know right now that I have realized that summer is very boring food-wise for us. The structure of the school year is gone & we just kind of fly by the seat of our pants. As of June 10-we will be in full summertime mode! So that means I may or may not post everyday. Probably not. If its not blog worthy I won't post just to post. That doesn't seem right! But don't worry, I'll be around!

Ok, moving on to last night's dinner. Sue & I finally made it to Udupi! I picked her up and on the way there, my windshield wipers crashed into each other & a big piece went flying off! It was raining (obviously) so we pulled off and Sue fixed it! She's so handy. So we jumped back on the highway & arrived safe & sound at Udupi. Its in a shopping plaza & we almost missed it! When we walked in, we were shocked by how big it is! And empty. And deathly quiet. There was only one other table of customers-they were Indian so I thought that was a good sign. We were shown to a table and soon realized that our waiter did not speak English. No problem, right? Well actually, it was a big problem. We all tried really hard to understand each other, but lots of things were lost in translation. Such as when we were finished eating, I ordered another glass of wine for both of us & he brought the check. Or maybe he just wanted us out-who knows. Anyway, the food. The food was good-the sauces were delicious.

I would love to tell you about the appetizer platter we had, but honestly, we really had no clue what we were eating, which was sad. The green sauce was delicious, it clearly had cilantro. That white thing in the middle is a rice cake he said, but honestly it looked like Wonder bread & tasted like nothing at all! But I was grateful for it after eating a hot pepper that set my mouth on fire! That round thing in the upper right corner was really good, too. It must have had beets.
For the entrees, Sue ordered the Malai Kofta, maybe. I honestly can't remember-it was some kind of kofta. I know, I'm awful, I should have taken notes! Regardless, it was really good.
My meal was the paneer dosai. Dosai are Indian crepes and paneer is Indian cheese-which I love! I have no idea what else was in there, but it was good. I have 1/2 of one left that I plan on eating for lunch. I hope its not soggy.
After we were booted out, we went to another restaurant that I love-El Rodeo-for margaritas. I have never had a bad meal there & their frozen peach margaritas are delicious.
So, final thought-would I go back to Udupi? No. Sue said there is another Indian restaurant in North Olmsted that she likes. We'll probably stick to that one. But I'm always up for an adventure & we have fun anywhere we go!
