You probably know that fall is my favorite season, same as most people. I love sweaters & I have an unhealthy obsession with socks. Fall, to me, is all about comfort. In my house, I have blankets to snuggle up with everywhere & every piece of furniture with the exception of my new 'pretty' chair is comfy. Its all earthy colors-no bright white anywhere really, even in the summer. Comfort is king to me-I don't even wear heels anymore. Luckily, I'm almost 5'8.
I guess that's why Thanksgiving is so special. For me its a 4 1/2 day long relaxation & eating fest that starts in my head long before. I used to request off the Friday after Txgiving in January-so you know how serious I am! (And no its not because I drink too much on Thursday. Mostly.)
No Black Friday for me, no way! Friday is spent in jammies, under blankets, watching movies, with a certain tradition we have every year-Thanksgiving in a bowl!
Turn your Thanksgiving dinner leftovers into 'different' meals? Have people lost their minds?! This only comes once a year & we milk it for all its worth. Thanksgiving in a bowl is exactly what it sounds like-you pile all the leftovers into a big shallow bowl & enjoy it all over again! Honestly, I cannot fathom turning my leftovers into 'something different'. Blasphemy!
Anyway, enough ranting.
I'm really glad that Halloween is over. Thats means we are that much closer to Glutton Fest 2010, I mean Thanksgiving. Yesterday I was positively giddy taking down all of the Halloween decorations. Bye bye Halloween Town-see ya next year!
Hello new buffet lamps (& beautiful pumpkin I bought for my dinner centerpiece, but loved it here instead).
Brian also put up my candle sconces. Sorry for the weird angle-I was laying on the ottoman.
So, what have I accomplished so far?
I have my dessert (the one I'm actually making) all planned out. I finalized the ingredients, now I'm debating on how I want to put them together. Its going to be amazing if I do say so myself! I ordered my pies from Gray House Pies. His Pumpkin Pecan is quite possibly the best pie I have ever had! Not even kidding! Caramel Apple is the other one I ordered which is delicious too.
Do yourself a favor & order these for your holiday dinner-you won't be sorry. And they ship all over the country so everyone can share in the deliciousness!
Just tell him Tina from the title company sent you. Not that it will make a bit of difference, but it'll make me feel important. haha. I'm kidding. The owner's name is Joe & he used to be in the mortgage business, so we hit it off instantly of course.
Ok, moving on. I also have my shopping list almost complete. My recipes are all chosen, but one-the soup. This is my first year making soup. Fingers crossed.
My salad is all set-so excited about it & I tasted a Quorn goat cheese & cranberry cutlet that may be by main course on the big day-I'm not sure yet. The goat cheese was very understated for those that don't really care for it. Although I'm not sure how anyone doesn't like goat cheese. (She knows who she is!)
Still to complete:
- Finish recipe testing (soup)
- Complete shopping list
- Complete timeline & schedule for Wed. & Thurs.
- Solidify drinks
- Assign crockpots (new idea this year)
This year, I'm changing things up a bit. I'm making dinner a multi course meal. I plan on dragging it out for a couple of hours. We should be nice & drunk, I mean FULL, by dinner's end. I think the total is 10 people, but it may be 11. So that means, I'll be cooking for 20-leftovers!
My sister comes over on Wednesday night & we start prepping everything. Of course we also open some wine, so maybe not everything gets done. She used to sleep over, but then she got dogs & has to go home, which is very sad for me. But she shows up bright & early to watch the parade with me & the kids over coffee. Its almost the same.
Planning consumes my every waking thought for weeks to come! I can't wait until the specials start running on Food Network! Is it weird that I DVRd a really good Ina episode last year & saved it for this year?
So while every blogger is at Foodbuzz, I'll be here planning & decorating & celebrating the season!
Am I the only one obsessed with Thanksgiving?
