While you were out...

While I was away learning about nutrition & healthy things, my 16 year old was at home making some interesting choices for himself. The first being this:
This would be his new fish tank. He so far has spent about $200 (of his own money) on this thing. He still needs more fish. We are acquiring quite the menagerie. We now have BabyGirl's betta fish, Diamond, and her turtle Anna, pronounced AW-NA. Bubba had a hamster, Charlie, but he didn't make it, the poor thing. We also have Stewie of course. The tank currently has 5 fish and he'll be getting more soon.

But his other choices were the ones I really care about. He obviously went grocery shopping too.
I usually try to buy the healthier equivalent of whatever snack food they like. There is no healthy equivalent of Ramen Noodles! I can only hope that when he eats nothing but Ramen during college, he will get sick of them and never eat them again! We'll see. It really surprised me that he went out with his own money to buy food, what does that say about me? I guess the oatmeal is a good choice, but we already have plenty. But that's fine, now he has his own oatmeal. Whatever.

My point (for the 88th time!), I try to give them all the tools to make good choices when I'm not around to guide them. He's leaving for college in 2 years and I really hope I've done my job with food (and lots of other things). But in general, he grows veggies & likes them and he bought (plain!) oatmeal and fruit & grain bars-not pop & Doritoes, so in the grand scheme of things, I'm impressed. And I know his love of Ramen will end eventually, so I'm gonna call this battle a tie (leaning pretty far in my direction).
