Speaking of the libarary and books, my father in law asked me the other day about the Kindle. My reponse was, it has it benefits, I'm sure, but it doesn't feel like a book. Part of my love for books is just that, I love the feel, their pages & binding, of course the stories & the smell. I have loved books from a very early age. I can still hear my mother, "Books are our friends, we don't write in them or damage them. We love them." She didn't pass on much, but that has stuck with me through the years. At one point, I had planned on starting my own library, but then I thought better of it. Still, my house is over-run with books. They are everywhere you look. Someday I'll post pictures. I have started to pass along the ones I don't love through PaperbackSwap.com. I get credits for each book, so I get get the ones I really want. And if I read it & don't like it that much, off it goes to the next in line.
The latest book I received is the one to the left. Living on the Earth by Alicia Bay Laurel. It is hand written & illustrated-from 1971! And it was free-the best part! Just sitting in someone's house. Amazon had some for almost $200. I think the one I have might be out of print, but I'm not sure. They have an updated version, but I really loved the original. Like most of my books. I shipped off 4 more yesterday & can't wait to see what from my wish list comes next! Now it does require patience, which I am usually short on, but if I 'need' a book immediately I obviously can run out & get it. But books like this one aren't out there, so I was more than happy to wait & am just glad I have it!
Also, if anyone cares, I've added to the right, under my profile, What I'm Reading Now. And of course, my Shelfari bookshelf, if you click on it, there are lists of some of the books I have already read.
