Life on the Lake

I wanted to share some good news with you all! We have been given an awesome opportunity. But first, I'll give you a little background. For the past few years we were lucky enough to have friends that own a house on one of the Lake Erie islands. We spent lots of weekends with them up there & getting away for a couple of days in spring & summer was really a nice break.
These pictures are from 2008.

Last summer, we never went-our friends split up & things were tense, so no one went. I didn't realize how much we missed the little trips away from everything until they were gone! Not that we didn't have a great summer-but there's just something about packing up & taking off for a couple of days.

I haven't been on a 'real' vacation since I was pregnant with the twins. They're 9. And before that, D was 3-he's 17 now. As a matter of fact, last summer was the most traveling I've done-quite possibly ever.

We don't do once a year family vacations or really any at all. There are many reasons for this including:

1. We own our own business & its very hard to leave for an extended period of time. Also, leaving at the end of the month is out of the question for our business & Brian's job.
2. We're up to our eyeballs in big home improvement projects (kitchen, bathroom, deck, fence, driveway). That all costs lots of money.
3. We have pets we can't take with us-a turtle & fish, so we have to make arrangements for them. Also, if Stewie can't come, we have to find someone to take him also.
4. The kids have their various sports-but really they could miss some-that's not really a big deal.

So, in summation, vacation is more trouble than its worth most of the time. To me, a beach is a beach is a beach. And frankly, I'm scared of all the creatures in the ocean, so a lake is preferable. Or a chlorinated pool works too. Although someday I do want to see the Bahamas & Hawaii. Someday...

Anyway, back to the news. This whole spring thru fall, we will be able to take our short jaunts to the lake again! And this time, we don't have to share. A family member has a vacant place & they've offered it to us to use! How great is that?! We are so incredibly excited! There are a few things we will need to bring to make it livable for our family, but we are positively giddy. And Stewie is more than welcome to join us, which honestly might have been a deal breaker.

We're not on one of the islands, its on the mainland and is surrounded by SO many fun things to do! We plan on having a great summer! There also happens to be a great farm stand right near by that I cannot wait to shop at for fresh fruits & veggies! We'll be right on the water & there are tons of fun things to do close by. And of course lots of time to spend playing & relaxing on the beach.

I'm planning on lots of fresh summery meals with local produce & delicious cheeses from CheeseHaven.

I can't wait to share our summer food & fun with you!
