The War Within

On Monday, I started on my cleansing/detox/weight loss/mental cleansing journey. Phew. I've got a lot going on. In my head anyway. I started watching everything I put into my mouth on Monday. I can get a bit carried away with eating (& boozing), as evidenced by my paunchy middle section after the holidays.

Yesterday (Friday) was the day it all really began for me. A while back I bought a Groupon for an Herbal Body Wrap. I had one of these years ago, and the results were honestly nothing short of amazing. Yesterday wasn't as amazing, but still great-I did lose 8 1/2 inches all over. So great, I got suckered into 9 more wraps (at a deeply discounted rate, of course).

I know I said it was the summer of Tina, but this is really going to be my year. Last summer was all about partying and fun. This year, while still throwing in some fun, will be all about really focusing on myself, in all facets I think. Self Improvement.

Why the sudden enlightenment? Yesterday while wrapped in warm ace bandages soaked in herbs, I had 45 minutes to do nothing but rest with my thoughts and this. I realized that this is it-I'm almost 40! Well, I'm 38 but 40 is right around the corner! Things get tougher after 40 I hear. Like losing weight. Or keeping in shape. I need to make a pre-emptive strike and yesterday was the day. I woke up & did my Pilates, showered and went to my wrap. So supposedly it not only shrinks you a bit, you also detox. I wasn't sure if that was really the case until. last night. I had nightmares all night long! That usually doesn't happen, so I can only assume I was detoxing. I also woke up with crusty eyes (tmi?). I wasn't wearing makeup and I'm not sick, so I have to assume the same. Maybe its just wishful thinking, but mental is half the battle, right? I also have a slight headache this morning. Coffee is not helping.

Yesterday I joined Sparkpeople, which is really cool. Tracking my food intake is a huge thing for me & this site is really great. I'm also able to customize the tracking of other things such as:

Being a vegetarian, the ability to monitor my intake of protein & iron is important, as a woman, calcium & vitamin D, and just as a human, Vitamins B & fiber. You can see my totals from yesterday, obviously this morning, all I've had is coffee so there's nothing yet. I was seriously lacking in some items yesterday, so I took my multivitamin & just like that, I'm all caught up! I also may have had a piece of dark chocolate that isn't on there-it was late. My multivitamin is amazing. Its Super Nutrition Simply Women One-per-day Women. It not only has all your vitamins, it has minerals, antioxidants & greenfoods. I wish I could remember where I bought it, because the price on Amazon is stupid expensive-I never would have paid that!

There's also an adorable little water tracker to keep you on track.

We recommend that you get at least 8 cups of water a day. Click the arrows to track the amount of water you have consumed.

I realize this means I could be chained to my computer all day, which I am really anyway. I guess if I had a smart phone, I could just log in on that. But I think I can remember the few things I'll eat or drink while I'm out. Like today, we're supposed to go sledding, so I doubt I'll be intaking a lot of anything. Except maybe some hot cocoa. Although it is like 40 degrees today. I'm sure that activity would be great for the exercise log on there-if I could figure it out. You can also join different groups for support and commiserating, I guess. But that's not my bag, I'm kind of a loner. I just want to do my thing & get out!

So, that's what's going on with me lately. Stewie's going to the vet today, we think he hurt himself somehow, maybe falling up the steps. He's also getting all caught up on his shots, so he'll probably be sleeping all day.

We're off on Monday for the holiday, so Brian & I are taking a (road)trip to Whole Foods! I can't wait! I hope it doesn't blizzard! He's never been. I think we'll have to do lunch there too.

I'll be back soon with my French Onion Soup recipe-it is so good!
Hope you're all having a great weekend!
