3 day holiday weekend!
Friday night we decided to go to Liberty Fest at Crocker Park.
Friday night we decided to go to Liberty Fest at Crocker Park.
It was already 7 pm. so we just ate there. I had a delish sandwich. Green apples with cream cheese & honey on whole grain bread. Oh Yum! Brian had a sad looking gyro.
For our dining accompaniment, we got to listen to British Export (Award Winning Beatles Tribute Band). Award winning huh? I wonder what award that would be cuz honestly they seemed a bit off key to me. But whatever, it was fun. BabyGirl was singing & dancing. They had the look going though.
We walked around a bit & stumbled into a great clearance sale at Eddie Bauer. I love that place! Their pants don't fit me right though. But their shoes do! I got Teva's on clearance for $20! Last pair was my size-that never happens! I also got a big comfy hoodie & Brian got a cool polo shirt. That was about all the fun we could handle so we stopped at Target for a few things & went home.
Saturday morning, they all got up and went to march in a parade for Ed Fitzgerald a few cities over. I did not even though I love Ed! The house was nice and quiet & hasn't been for quite awhile. Summer Camp starts Tuesday and not a moment too soon. The boredom has already set in. We ALL can't wait for Tuesday!
I lounged outside (in my jammies) with my coffee and finished up my book-House Rules by Jodi Picoult
. Ehh. Even though I called the ending half-way through, I was still annoyed. I've read much better of hers.
Brian & my FIL worked on the counter top in the afternoon. And I made this:
D harvested the neighbor's garlic that he planted in the fall. She gave us a couple of bulbs. They're giant!
General Updates:
~Don't forget about the Foodbuzz 24X24. Call to submissions should be coming up very soon-keep your fingers crossed for me! I'm really excited and I really hope I get chosen. I think my idea is pretty cool & I really want to try it!

Brian & my FIL worked on the counter top in the afternoon. And I made this:
It was the Squash Tart from http://www.sippitysup.com
All the ingredients were local except the EVOO & butter. The phyllo dough was by Athens Foods which is right here in Cleveland (I got it at Jasmine Bakery). The summer squash & zucchinis were from the Kamm's farmers market and all the herbs were from my backyard! It turned out pretty good, but I'm not sure if I would make it again.
Sidenote: My office manager's Dad has worked at Athen's for over 30 years!D harvested the neighbor's garlic that he planted in the fall. She gave us a couple of bulbs. They're giant!
We finally got the kitchen computer hooked back up! The TV in there doubles as a computer monitor. That counter is really quite crowded now, but that's ok-now I can have Food Network & music while I cook!
Sunday morning was was pretty lazy. In the afternoon, I ran to the Marc's to get food. And how about they are getting 'closeouts' from Target now! I got BabyGirl an adorable pair of canvas slip-ons for $3! School shoes for only 3 bucks-can't beat that with a stick! I also got a really cute tote bag. Ok, I got 2-I couldn't decide. Those were also 3 bucks!
Brian & I spent the day doing laundry and purging outgrown clothes. We also cleaned up the laundry area of the basement & sorted the stuff to be washed. It was a big project!
I also had my slave labor pull weeds from the walkway-in their pajamas no less.
I made my favorite black bean & corn salsa. Its super easy, of course. Tomatoes, canned black beans, frozen corn, onions, cilantro & lime juice/zest. That's it.
Our guests finally arrived & the kids played before dinner. They played tetherball & croquet.
We cooked out. My friend brought steaks & I had bought some sausages. I also made baked beans and we had some potato salad in the fridge.
When it came time to eat, I had eaten so much salsa, I just had some baked beans!
This was possibly the easiest cookout ever.
We are very fortunate to be able to watch the fireworks from our yard! See them in the upper left?!
I tried out the Fireworks Show setting on my camera. Hmmm.
Today is just more laundry organizing for me. Brian is working on the counter top (still). I have to get my self ready to leave & get the kids all ready for camp! And I still have to figure out this weeks meals. Everything will be super simple this week, I guarantee it. D is at Cedar Point today so he won't be home for dinner. Leftovers it is!
General Updates:
~We have been elected to host a BBQ for our friends visiting from out of town in August. I'm excited to see everyone! Its gonna be big, so look forward to that! It also falls on the weekend on my class reunion, which I am only attending the happy hour night. I'm not on Facebook, but everyone already knows everyone else's business, so honestly-what's the point.

~Vegetarian Summerfest is almost here! I have lots of people waiting to hear all about it. Well, mostly how Brian does, but still.
~Brian's birthday is also this Thursday, so maybe we'll go out for that. I have a gift card to Olive Garden burning a hole in my pocket!
