The French Laundry Cookbook
-While very pretty to look at, all of the dishes looked pretty complicated & there was nothing that just begged to be made. I guess French is not my thing. Except for wine & cheese, of course.
The Hamptons Diet Cookbook: Enjoying the Hamptons Lifestyle Wherever You Live
- I had no idea 'The Hamptons Diet' was an actual 'diet'. Duh. I thought it was referring to the style of eating, like the end of the title suggested. I was wrong, it was pretty much a diet book. While the recipes looked good, that kind of turned me off right from the beginning and I wasn't compelled to try anything.
Jamie at Home: Cook Your Way to the Good Life
- Again, a very pretty book. Lots of great tips on growing your own food. This book would be a good reference I think. I probably wouldn't buy it though. Why? This may sound odd, but the meals were too 'english'. I couldn't see myself making any of them. And not many were vegetarian, so right there, it cut my choices down drastically. I still love Jamie though!
cook 1.0
-Heidi is one of my favorites. This cookbook is set up very differently than any other cookbook I've seen. She takes a 'theme' or 'technique' and runs with it, showing you the many different variations. Its actually a brilliant way to set up a cookbook, but it definitely takes some getting used to. I found this book to be one I would actually buy.
the art of simple food
- this is more of an instructional book. I mean, yes it has recipes, but it is chock full of techniques, suggestions & definitions. It would be a good book to give to someone just moving out on their own or a newlywed. Dare I compare it to Martha's Cooking School
?
Since I got Giada's Kitchen for Mother's Day, I will be trying recipes out of it. I can't wait-I love her and this book is beyond beautiful!
